- Narrative Designers create, capture, and translate the medical and life history of virtual patients for Shadow Health’s nursing education products and maintain patient and product design integrity across time.
- Narrative Designers collaborate with a highly skilled team of designers, developers, artists, commercial team members, and education experts to create content that includes patient medical histories, life stories, dialogues, student learning tips, instructional content, and more.
- Job Tasks
- IMPROVES the user experience through content creation and activity design
- Understands User Experience within the framework of game mechanics and conversation engine design, and can adapt appropriately when writing dialogue and content
- Writes realistic, empathetic patient dialogue
- Writes clear, concise, and accessible instructional content and feedback, including pro-tips, tool-tips, and other instructional material
- Designs an ideal path of conversation with our virtual patients and characters
- Creates and maintains complex patient narratives with narrative outlines, storyboards, and other documentation
- Reviews user-generated questions from student transcripts and expands question recognition capabilities with attention to grammatical parameters (e.g.tense) and non-grammatical parameters (e.g. appropriateness for case)
- Tags moments in the simulation that map to key assessment criteria, ensuring that students receive credit for asking appropriate questions, engage in appropriate empathetic and educational opportunities with virtual characters, and document appropriate objective assessment findings.
- DEVELOPS and ADVANCES new features
- Engages in new activity design with cross-functional team members
- Helps to facilitate design sessions
- Works to integrate feedback and design requests from a variety of sources, including subject matter experts, the learning design team, and the market research team
- Ensures that assignment activities meet our learning objectives and goals
- COLLABORATES as a member of a cross-functional team
- Interviews subject matter experts to gather information about market needs
- Participates in Scrum processes and Agile ceremonies (e.g. plan/review/retro, daily stand-ups, maintaining project board, identifying risks and blockers)
- Incorporates cross-functional feedback from relevant stakeholders into assignment design
- ITERATES based on internal testing and user feedback
- Tests the product
- Analyzes transcripts, conversation flow, and logic errors to identify and correct unanticipated errors
- Fixes and releases content bugs based on SLA prioritization
- Education and Experience
- REQUIRED
- Advanced Degree and/or 2+ years of professional writing experience (technical and/or creative writing)
- PREFERRED
- Medical or technical writing experience
- An interest in software development, game design, human-computer interaction, or UX
- Academic research experience, especially in Health Sciences or STEM field.
